After watching and then discussing the film Where to Invade Next, by Michael Moore, Professor Mangini assigned our class a MLA source-based argument research paper based off the controversial and provocative topics discussed in the film. Mangini provided several research questions to choose from, the topic was our choice. Although the film opened my eyes to several topics what interested me the most was Italy's workforce benefits. After a sad attempt of trying to find sources for my annotated biblio- graphy blog post on workforce benefits in america. I came short of nothing, I started to become very discouraged about my topic and mostly the paper. After a few days of thinking about the film and the questions provided for us, I happened to have conversation with a coworker about her recent unpaid maternity leave and how difficult it was for her and her family. I re-watching the film for my fifth time in a month. My decision was clear - Paid Maternity leave in America. With the help of professor Mangini walking our class through the process of the learning commons, their source databases, formatting the paper and of course the support of my boyfriend, the writing process started to flow. I hope you enjoy my topic as much I enjoyed researching it. For my second draft I revised it from start to finish with my mom - a Microsoft Word genius. She had me print a hard draft and bring her a red pen. We sat at our dinning room table and went through each sentence together, as she marked my paper she we walked me through my run on sentences and mostly my grammar mistakes. I found working with someone and being able to talk out your thoughts and mistakes really makes a difference in revising my work.
